Awash in Brine

from Awash in Brine by Nick Leonard

lyrics

Into the light: our footsteps vanish from earth
And on our knees our trembling hands betray hope
Our fading dreams to fall drown broken to the ground
To wash away the sins our fathers left here

The sun goes down
Never to rise
Awash in brine
Our bodies lie

And though we're still our movements can be traced, now
Toward the ruination of the land, go
To seek what higher truth there may be found here
As far as I can see you will find none, return

Cracked paint, rust seeks
New openings
Torn down, rebuilt
Cyclicality

Arise serpents
From the fallow to the mating ground
The fertile seed of the war machine
The silent towers where the corpses lie
Our selfish way
To prevent decay
The grindstone sharpens to a careful point
Only to be dulled making use of it

Filled with remorse
New wounds appear
Missteps compound
No path is clear

To prevent death we stifle life itself
A careful shell whose frail bones bend no more
The useless husk of ancient apathy
No will to go on and no will to stop
When we feel alive
We soon return to fear demise

Filled with remorse
New wounds appear
Missteps compound
No path is clear

The fertile seed of the war machine
The silent towers where the corpses lie
Our selfish way
To prevent decay
The grindstone sharpens to a careful point
Only to be dulled making use of it

Filled with remorse
New wounds appear
Missteps compound
No path is clear

Into the light: our footsteps vanish from earth
And on our knees our trembling hands betray hope
Our fading dreams to fall drown broken to the ground
To wash away the sins our fathers left here

The sun goes down
Never to rise
Awash in brine
Our bodies lie

And though we're still our movements can be traced, now
Toward the ruination of the land, go
To seek what higher truth there may be found here
As far as I can see you will find none, return

Cracked paint, rust seeks
New openings
Torn down, rebuilt
Cyclicality
